Although there are a lot of writing opportunities that awaits an online writer, it may not always mean that each writing project bid can be won by you. There are as many writers as the opportunities available for online writing jobs. In order to effectively market oneself and get the chance to win a writing project, here are the basic things that a writer must keep in mind:
- Create a detailed profile that you will post online. Write an impressive résumé highlighting your skills as a writer. It is not necessary that you put in your resume all the jobs that you have had. You just need to simply highlight the ones that would make the employer consider you for the opportunity. Employers are generally busy; they might be willing to spend couple of minutes browsing your résumé.
- Make sure that you upload work samples so the employer would have a grasp about your writing abilities. Most employers prefer to hire people with previous related work experience; save your employer time by immediately supplying samples of your work.
- Do not use a generalized project proposal; remember each employer has its own set of requirements. Personalize each project proposal for every employer that you plan to get hired. Employers would hire someone who is in sync with the project.
- Be very keen on the documents that you send to prospective employers. Double check spelling and grammar; it would not give a positive impression especially you are applying for the position of an online writer.
It is not a big joke securing to win a project; so before placing a bid make sure that all the necessary information are included in the resume and remove that information that would only over-sell your capabilities as an online writer. Once you were given the chance to win a project bid, be professional and complete your contract as an online writer with the buyer.
